History

The dynamic history of the Center for Leadership & Organizational Change offers a vivid illustration of the value that can be realized from using the services and tools CLOC offers to campus clients. This is our story.

Timeline

1999: Founding and first years
  • Office for Organizational Effectiveness (OOE) begins as outgrowth of the former Office for Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI).
  • Begins reporting directly to the Office of the Provost.
  • CQI Team Facilitator Network transformed into the Peer Consulting Network (PCN).

2000 – 2003: Expanding client services and moving to larger quarters
  • Staff of one director and one graduate assistant increases to three full-time organizational development consultants.
  • Quadruples office space in move to Cole Field House.
  • PCN grows to 22 volunteer consultants.
  • Client load increases to an average of 15 simultaneous consultations. Direct service to deans increasing. 72% of business in Academic Affairs.

2004: Transformation from a fully supported unit to a subsidized self-support unit
  • State budget cuts result in move to fee-for-service model.
  • Former clients – deans and chairs – donate one-time funding to bridge transition to self-support.
  • Provost Destler sponsors new CLOC Advisory Board.
  • Service requests continue to increase; more than 45 clients served in 2004.
  • PCN continues to grow, and even more intensive and ongoing training provided, while monthly professional development continues.
  • Staff expands to include administrative support.
