Denise Maple
Organizational Development Specialist
I joined the CLOC staff as an OD specialist in 1999 after volunteering as a consultant with the PCN. The immense diversity found at the university has given me a wonderful opportunity to work with a wide array of academic, administrative and student affairs groups. I am fascinated by how each UM group is a microcosm within the larger university context, with its own history, culture and measures of success. To learn about each client system, I conduct a thorough assessment and design a customized process that enables participants to have the conversations they need to have in order to create positive change. From these conversations, participants have created strategic plans, resolved conflicts and built stronger, more aligned teams. I am also very interested in leadership development; I provide coaching that helps leaders reflect on their individual skills and develop leadership competencies that promote their own growth and that of their organization.
A large part of my role at CLOC is serving as organizer, mentor and trainer for our Peer Consulting Network (PCN). The PCN is a dynamic learning community of 25 talented faculty and staff that serve as co-consultants for CLOC consultations. In collaboration with other CLOC staff and external trainers, I co-create and deliver innovative, interactive training that grows the skill and knowledge base of the PCN learning community.
I have worked at the University since 1995 and my previous positions have been with the A. James Clark School of Engineering and the Office of Professional Studies where I produced professional seminars and managed distance-learning programs. I have a Master of Science in Management and a Master of Social Work, both from the University of Maryland.
