Grant Partnering
Case 1. A National Science Foundation grant investigating the role universities could play in improving high school math and science teaching required that the information developed as a result of the project activities be disseminated to the education community. The principal investigator requested CLOC assistance in planning and facilitating a meeting of the 60+ participants in the study. The faculty and high school teachers involved in the meeting not only created a summary of the lessons learned, but also formed teams to work to extend and expand the cooperative relationship between the universities and the school system. The teams continued the work on joint methods for improving math and science education.
Case 2. A faculty member writing a proposal for a competitive federal grant contacted CLOC for assistance in fulfilling one of the required aspects of the project – a preliminary meeting between the principal investigator, the project funders, and key external stakeholders to form agreement on the scope of the investigation, communication processes, data gathering methods, and measures of success. CLOC consultants designed and facilitated an interactive meeting that allowed the key constituencies to articulate their needs, create a range of possible solutions, and come to agreement on the fundamental decisions that needed to be made.
